His appointment has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The RBI governor, Dr Subbarao, recently announced that he was seeking discussion and perhaps even criticism from within his organisation. This is definitely newsworthy and Dr Subbarao should be applauded for taking this initiative. The RBI is perhaps the last of the feudal organisations in India (along with all the political parties) and this attempt at an entry into the 20th century is laudable.
