A day after Swami Prasad Maurya resigned as national general secretary of Samajwadi Party, party's national secretary Ram Govind Chaudhary on Wednesday wrote a letter to SP president Akhilesh Yadav requesting him not to accept the resignation as he was countering "poison" being spread by RSS and BJP. In his letter to Yadav, Chaudhary said, "Under your successful leadership, every worker and leader of Samajwadi Party is struggling to reduce the effect of this poison of communalism and hypocrisy. Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya on Sunday said there are only three seats of power and all of them are looting the country. In a video clip in Hindi released by him on Twitter, Maurya identified the three "gaddis" (seats) as the "raj gaddi" of the prime minister and chief minister, "mutt gaddi" of the shankaracharyas and seers, and "seth gaddi" of businesses like the Adani and Ambani groups. "Today there is an alliance between these three seats of power. When there is a threat to the 'raj gaddi', the 'seth gaddi' and 'mutt gaddi' come to its rescue by opening its coffers. "When the 'mutt gaddi' is in trouble, the 'seth gaddi' and 'raj gaddi' provide financial assistance, and when the 'seth gaddi' faces any problem, it gets bailed out by the other two," Maurya said. Pointing at the crowd, he said, "But you are not there on any of the three seats." The SP leader had last week accused the BJP of inciting communal feelings on the Gyanvapi Mosque issue. By conferring the Padma Vibhushan on Mulayam Singh Yadav, the government has made a mockery of his stature and contributions to the country, Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya said on Thursday. Booked for his comments on the Ramcharitmanas, Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya has refused to retract his remarks saying he had spoken on a particular verse in Hindu epic poem and not about Lord Ram or any religion. Maurya, a prominent OBC leader in Uttar Pradesh, largely stuck to his stand in an interview with PTI on Tuesday, but asserted his comments, which triggered a row and embarrassed his party, were made in personal capacity and not as a member of the SP. "At the time of giving the statement, I had said this is my personal statement," he said. Maurya kicked up a controversy recently by alleging that certain verses of the Ramcharitmanas "insult" a large section of society on the basis of caste and demanded that these be "banned". Asked if he still stood by his statement, the SP leader replied, "Have I said anything wrong that I will go back?" "I give respect to all religions, but no religion or anyone can have the permission to hurl abuses.... I have spoken about
