Several districts in Tamil Nadu adversely battered by torrential rain are battling with inundation woes, badly damaged roads and lack of access to essential commodities. In certain areas like Arasur in Villupuram district, people confronted with depleted essential commodities, resorted to a sudden agitation demanding the essentials. Expressing its concern over the appointment of DMK leader V Senthil Balaji, as a minister in the Tamil Nadu government days after he was granted bail in the money laundering case related to the cash-for-job scam, the Supreme Court on Monday agreed to examine a plea raising apprehensions on independence of witnesses in the case. The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is "very likely" to cross the coast as a depression on November 30 between Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal in Puducherry, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday. The deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 9 kmph during the past six hours and lay centered at 11.30 pm of November 28 over the same region. It lay about 240 km northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 330 km east-southeast of Nagappattinam, 390 km east-southeast of Puducherry and 430 km southeast of Chennai, the weather office said in its latest update on 'X.' Intensified and coordinated efforts in controlling the dengue virus helped to substantially reduce the mortality and spread of the vector borne disease in the state, the Tamil Nadu Health Department said on Friday. Amid the ongoing North East Monsoon, Tamil Nadu has been reporting sporadic cases of fever and dengue across the state. Following this, the Health and Family Welfare Department has intensified monitoring and surveillance efforts to contain the spread of dengue. "From January till November 5, 20,138 dengue cases have been reported in Tamil Nadu, with affected individuals recovering successfully. Logistics parks operator IndoSpace on Tuesday said it is looking to bolster its presence in the manufacturing sector with an increased investment plan of up to Rs 4,500 crore in new logistics and warehouse parks in Tamil Nadu. The central government will finance 65 per cent of the estimated cost of Chennai Metro Phase-2 project, which will add up to over Rs 41,000 crore, the finance ministry said on Saturday. The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal to construct three corridors under the Chennai Metro Rail project phase-2 involving a total estimated cost of Rs 63,246 crore. The Centre's share adds up to over Rs 41,000 crore. In a statement, the finance ministry said the central government will finance almost 65 per cent of the estimated cost of Chennai Metro Phase 2. This will include the entire required loan of Rs 33,593 crore, besides the equity and subordinate debt of Rs 7,425 crore. The balance 35 per cent of the estimated cost will be financed by the state government. Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi on Saturday approved Chief Minister M K Stalin's recommendations on a cabinet reshuffle that included the elevation of his son Udhayanidhi as deputy CM and saw the return of V Senthil Balaji to the council of ministers, two days after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a money laundering case. The Tamil Nadu government on Friday said it has signed an MoU with US-headquartered Rapid Global Business Solutions, Inc, a supplier of business solutions across various industries, and the firm would set up a new unit in the state by investing Rs 100 crore. Chief Minister M K Stalin, who is on a US tour, called on officials of Ford Motor in Chicago and deliberated on the possibility of renewing the company's ties with Tamil Nadu, the state government said on Wednesday.
