Tobacco exports to cross Rs 13,000 cr this year with 8% growth: Govt

The country's tobacco exports are likely to register an over 8 per cent growth and cross Rs 13,000 crore this year, a senior government official said on Wednesday. Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce Rajesh Agrawal also said the Tobacco Board has taken a number of steps to help farmers increase their income. India is the second largest producer of tobacco in the world after China. It is also the fourth largest producer of Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco in the world after China, Brazil and Zimbabwe. "India is the second largest exporter of unmanufactured tobacco (quantity terms) after Brazil. Tobacco exports contribute sizable foreign exchange to the Indian exchequer. This year, we are going to cross Rs 13,000 crore...Tobacco farmers income has also doubled over the last 5 years," Agrawal told reporters here. DS Group to spend Rs 125 crore in FY25 to expand Catch Spices brand

Homegrown FMCG firm Dharampal Satyapal Group is planning to spend about Rs 125 crore this fiscal on advertising, marketing, stepping up distribution network in tier II and III cities and in quick commerce for its core brand Catch Spices, which has entered the Rs 1,000 crore club, a top company official said. The group plans to introduce new products such as rasam powder and others to suit tastes in south India under its Catch Spices brand as it seeks to penetrate in the region as part of an overall strategy to grow at a CAGR of 30 per cent in the next five years. "We are on the path of growth. In 2023-24 we crossed Rs 1,000 crore mark in salt and spices (under the Catch Spices brand) and we are optimistic about the category," Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar told PTI. However, he said it is a very tough category for any new entrant to get into. "We have grown around 22 per cent CAGR over the years. In the last two years we have grown at a CAGR of 24 per cent.

No plans to sell SUUTI stake in FMCG player ITC, says Dipam Secretary

The government has no plans to sell its part stake in ITC, held through SUUTI, amid BAT paring its stake through a block deal in the Kolkata-based FMCG player, a top official said on Wednesday. As on December 31, 2023, Specified Undertaking of Unit Trust of India (SUUTI) held around 7.82 per cent stake in the diversified conglomerate ITC. "There is no such plan at the moment," Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey told PTI. SUUTI last pared a stake in ITC in February 2017, when two per cent equity was sold at a price of Rs 291.95 per share via block deal. In a block deal, two parties make a transaction involving shares worth at least Rs 5 crore. Block deal transactions are conducted in a separate trading window. British multinational BAT Plc on Tuesday said it plans to sell up to 3.5 per cent stake in India's ITC Ltd to institutional investors through a block trade.
