MakeMyTrip Q2FY25 results: Revenue up 26.5% year-on-year, bus and air ticketing see significant rise
Almost 50 per cent of Gen Z in India are planning for their first independent international trip, reveals a new survey, with over 80 per cent of them choosing to embark only after cashing in their first paycheck. The survey, conducted by the global travel marketplace Skyscanner, said while two in three young Indians are diligently saving, only one in five utilise buy-now-pay-later options to make their travel dreams a reality sooner. "There is a strong desire for travel among India's Gen Z (aged 18-25). Nearly half (47 per cent) of them are eagerly planning leisure trips abroad, without their parents or guardians, fueled by their deep desire for exploration and new adventures (49 per cent)," said the report. Car sharing marketplace Zoomcar and EaseMyTrip on Tuesday announced a partnership allowing users to book self-drive cars on the latter's online travel platform. With this partnership Zoomcar's wide range of self-drive cars has been seamlessly integrated into the EaseMyTrip platform, allowing users to book their preferred Zoomcar directly from the EaseMyTrip app offering travellers convenience and flexibility in planning their journeys, the two companies said in a statement. EaseMyTrip users will now have access to Zoomcar's fleet of over 25,000 cars, spanning a diverse range of models from hatchbacks to sedans to SUVs like Kia Carens, Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, and MG Astor, among others, it added.
Global digital travel platform Agoda will continue the accelerated rate of onboarding of accommodation properties in India, its fastest-growing market and a global travel powerhouse, its CEO Omri Morgenshtern said on Tuesday. The company is also looking to enhance partnerships with local firms in the travel and hospitality sector in the country to tap the huge potential of inbound and outbound traffic from the country. Indian women hosts collectively earned over Rs 200 crore through hosting on Airbnb in 2023, the online accommodation hosting platform said on Tuesday. In 2023, women Hosts in India, constituting nearly 30 per cent of the country's Airbnb hosting community, have been instrumental in creating unique guest experiences, the company said in a statement. Travel service solutions provider Mystifly on Wednesday said it is joining forces with Google Cloud to drive growth and innovation in the travel technology sector. The collaboration centres around integrating Mystifly's Smart Selling Platform (SSP) with Google's cutting-edge cloud services and generative AI capabilities. Mystifly Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Kumar said, "Our partnership with Google Cloud supports Mystifly's mission to modernize travel infrastructure across the entire ecosystem, delivering solutions that bridge old and new technologies and catering to the discerning needs of travellers and the efficiency of sellers and suppliers." Travel services provider MakeMyTrip on Tuesday reported a profit of USD 2 million for the September quarter, on the back of sustained elevated travel demand in India. The company, listed on Nasdaq, had reported a loss of USD 6.8 million in the year-ago period, it said in a regulatory filing. It also reported an EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) of USD 13.5 million for the quarter under review, as against USD 10.7 million in the second quarter of FY23. "We witnessed strong growth both in terms of Gross Bookings and profitability despite the second quarter of fiscal year being a seasonally weaker quarter for leisure travel. For Q2 FY24, Gross Bookings grew by 23.8 per cent YoY (Year-on-Year) in constant currency to USD 1.8 billion from USD 1.5 billion in Q2 FY23," the company stated. Currently, Rapido Auto has engaged 50 female 'captains' hailing from diverse backgrounds in the city for its ride-hailing service, and it aims add more than 200 active captains in the next three months through collaborations with various Coimbatore-based non-governmental organisations, the company said in a release. Rapido will equip the women captains with essential safety and driving skills through the comprehensive training programme in collaboration with the NGOs. It also plans to launch micro-loans and family health insurance for women auto captains in Coimbatore, the release added. This initiative would enable women to earn between Rs 800 and Rs 1,000 a day, translating to a monthly income of Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000, it added. The Rs 775-crore IPO received bids for 94,27,005 shares against 3,09,42,356 shares on offer, according to NSE data. The category for retail individual investors (RIIs) was subscribed 1.34 times while the quota for non-institutional investors received a 9 per cent subscription and the qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) portion was subscribed 6 per cent. The initial public offer has a fresh issue of up to Rs 602 crore and an offer for sale of up to 1,21,83,099 equity shares. The price range for the offer is Rs 135-142 a share. Online travel service provider Easy Trip Planners Ltd on Monday reported a 21.82 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 25.9 crore for the June quarter. The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 33.13 crore in the year-ago quarter, Easy Trip Planners, which operates under the brand EaseMyTrip, said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated revenue from operations during the first quarter of the current fiscal stood at Rs 124.05 crore, as against Rs 87.58 crore a year ago, it added. Total expenses were higher at Rs 91.56 crore, as compared to Rs 47 crore in the same period a year ago, the company said.

A group of 40 bike taxi drivers have sought Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot's intervention against any enforcement or action by the city government against them. The Delhi government launched a crackdown against bike taxis in February. In a memorandum submitted to Gahlot's office, the group said the Delhi government is adamant about banning their services. "We will face difficulties in meeting household expenses, getting our children educated and getting our parents treated," read the memorandum. The memorandum also said that while the delivery services continued unabated, the bike taxi drivers were being "targeted". The Supreme Court had on Monday stayed a Delhi High Court order that essentially allowed Rapido and Uber to operate in the national capital by asking the Delhi government not to take any coercive action against them till a new policy was formulated.
