The Heavy Industries Ministry on Thursday started consultations with stakeholders on the Rs 500 crore subsidy outlay under the PM E-drive scheme and frame guidelines to fast-track the adoption of electric trucks. In the first meeting on Thursday, officials stressed the need for truck makers, buyers and banks to come together for a faster and smoother transition to e-trucks. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Indian Ports Association, Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, BillionE Mobility, Olectra, Amazon, Flipkart, Switch Labs, Murugappa group Volvo Eicher, Mahindra Trucks, apart from representatives from industry associations like SIAM and ICCT. Green fuel truck maker Blue Energy Motors said on Tuesday it has bagged a contract from the Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) for the supply of 100 LNG-powered trucks. A Navratna PSU and leading containerized multimodal logistics services firm CONCOR plans to deploy the LNG-powered fleet of trucks at its strategic hubs to facilitate containers' first and last-mile movement, Blue Energy said in a statement. India's trucking market is expected to grow over four times by 2050, a Niti Aayog report said on Friday and suggested that financial institutions can work to structure more-favourable financing solutions for zero-emission trucks. The report titled 'Transforming Trucking in India: Pathways to Zero-Emission Truck Deployment' further said as road freight travel continues to grow, the number of trucks is expected to more than quadruple, from 4 million in 2022 to roughly 17 million trucks by 2050.
