Uber Self Driving Cars

Uber is selling its autonomous driving unit, Advanced Technologies Group, to self-driving car startup Aurora, in a move that would accelerate the ride-sharing company's goal to achieve profitability

The company has assured the NTSB that new technology in the cars will correctly recognize pedestrians in similar situations

Uber said it had received authorization to put autonomous cars back on the road in Pittsburgh, where it has a lab devoted to the technology, but has yet to actually do so

Uber plans to run the vehicles on a mile loop between its offices in Pittsburgh starting next week, not exceeding the speed limit of 25 miles per hour

Uber is also betting big on India, which it says could be its leading tech centre in 10 years

Waymo and Uber are part of a crowded field of automakers and technology companies competing to build fleets of self-driving cars that could transform urban transportation systems

The self-driving system that would be used in the Volvo cars -which have yet to be built - is under development by Uber's Advanced Technologies Group
