A leopard was beaten to death by villagers after it attacked a 55-year-old man in Udaipur district of Rajasthan on Friday, police said. The incident occurred in Sayra area in the early hours when the leopard attacked Devaram's cattle outside his house, they said. According to police, when he opened the gate to check on the cattle, the leopard attacked him, leaving him injured. Hearing his cries for help, the villagers quickly gathered and surrounded the area where the leopard was hiding. They started hitting the animal with sticks and other objects, leading to its death on the spot, police said. The injured is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, they added. The area is located about 25 km from where forest and police teams have been searching for a man-eater leopard over the past several days. Family members of the boy whose stabbing by a classmate triggered communal violence in Udaipur took part in a rally in the city on Sunday, alleging that they were not being allowed to see the victim at the hospital. A large number of people, including family members of the boy, were part of the rally that began at Udaipur's Mukherjee Nagar Chowk. Raising slogans, the rally reached MB Hospital, demanding that the family members be allowed to see the boy. Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal said, "There was some confusion that family members cannot meet the boy. But, they are allowed to do so." His condition is stable but critical and soon a medical bulletin on him will also be released, Goyal said. The SP said that while mobile internet services continue to remain suspended considering the law and order situation, market were open on Sunday. A mob set fire to cars and pelted stones amid communal tension in Udaipur after a class 10 student stabbed another boy at a government school on Friday. Prohibitory orders banning the assembly of people were imposed in the Rajasthan city. It was not immediately known what led to the stabbing at the government school. Members of some Hindu outfits gathered at Madhuban in the city to protest over the stabbing, police said, adding the victim has been admitted in the ICU of the district hospital. Police said a mob pelted stones and set three or four cars on fire. "Additional policemen have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. The accused has been detained," SP Yogesh Goyal said.

BJP president J P Nadda will hold a meeting with party office bearers of Udaipur division on Monday ahead of the Rajasthan assembly polls. The first Sherpa meeting under India's G20 Presidency beginning here Sunday will set the agenda for the leaders' summit in New Delhi next September and provide the country an opportunity to outline its broad priorities. Chaired by India's Sherpa Amitabh Kant, the four-day meeting will see delegates from G20 members, invited countries and international organisations discuss pressing issues, including technological transformation, green development, spotlighting women-led development, accelerating implementation of SDGs, and facilitating inclusive and resilient growth. An India Army truck caught fire about 60 km from Rajasthan's Udaipur, ostensibly due to a technical malfunction, an official said on Friday. The truck was part of a five-vehicle convoy en route to the military station in Udaipur. A Quick Reaction Team of the Army swung into action and cordoned off the vehicle, stopping traffic on the highway, Defence Spokesperson Amitabh Sharma said. There was no loss of personnel or life. The Army personnel's prompt reaction also ensured no loss to public property or private vehicles, he said. Sharma added that the civil administration had also assisted with its resources for traffic management. The Army has ordered an internal inquiry to ascertain the facts, he said.

An explosion occurred on a railway track here on Sunday, hours before the recently inaugurated Asarwa-Udaipur Express train from Ahmedabad was supposed to pass. The police said they were investigating all angles, including sabotage. Officials said mining explosives were used to damage the tracks on Odha bridge near Kewda Ki Naal, which comes under the Jawar Mines police station of Udaipur. "Local people informed us about the explosion in the morning. We have found some explosives on the track and efforts are being made to identify those responsible," local SHO Anil Kumar Vishnoi said.
