Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was laid to rest at the Kali Bagh burial ground in Ghazipur on Saturday. The body was brought to the family's ancestral burial ground, about half a km from their residence, where a grave was dug on Friday. The local administration made elaborate security arrangements outside Ansari's residence and the burial ground. Ansari died due to a cardiac arrest on Thursday. His body was brought to his hometown around midnight on Friday, family sources said, adding the burial rituals took place at the residence. The body was taken to the Kali Bagh burial ground in a procession led by family members, including his son Umar Ansari and brother Afzal Ansari. A large crowd accompanied the procession and some also raised slogans. Police faced a tough time in managing the crowd who tried to force their way into the burial ground where entry was restricted. The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday extended till December 20 its order restraining the Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission from issuing a notification to conduct urban local body elections in the state. The Lucknow bench of the court was hearing a petition alleging that the reservation process for the OBC (Other Backward Classes) was not followed for the urban local bodies by the state government. On Wednesday, the state government sought three day's time to file a counter affidavit, which a bench headed by Justice D K Upadhyay accepted and extended its order restraining issuing of notification for urban local body elections till December 20. The bench on Monday restrained the poll authorities from issuing the notification till Tuesday, based on the PIL moved by Vaibhav Pandey and other petitioners. BJP MLAs from Noida, Dadri and Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar district Thursday emerged victorious from their respective seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022, according to official results. Pankaj Singh won the Noida seat with a whopping margin of 1.81 lakh votes, while Tejpal Nagar recorded a victory with 1.38 lakh votes, the Election Commission website showed. Dhirendra Singh won from the Jewar assembly seat with a victory margin of 56,315 votes, according to the result on the EC website. All three assembly constituencies had gone to polls on February 10 during the first round of the seven-phase elections in the state.
