US ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Thursday described his tenure in the country as the "most extraordinary", and said India captured his heart. During his interaction with select media representatives on the sidelines of a programme here, he said the relationship between India and the US holds "endless possibilities". Garcetti, whose term as the US ambassador to India is ending soon, said his stint in the country was the most extraordinary job of his life. "This was to be in the right place at the right time with the right relationship," he said. "President Joe Biden had said India was the most important country in the world to him and if you want to work on the future, you need to come to India. No US president has ever said this," he said. "India US relationship is the defining relationship. All of us know that building peace is to deter war, to make sure it doesn't occur. Borders should be sacred and sacrosanct. Rules are the only way to keep peace," he said. Hailing the
US ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Thursday said India and America are united in the fight against terrorism, and expressed satisfaction over the "increased" intelligence sharing and cooperation between the two countries to bring perpetrators to justice. The American Dream and the Indian Dream are flip sides of the same coin, he said, adding that the relationship between the two countries was "multiplicative" and that they have responsibility beyond their borders. Addressing a gathering on 'Peace and the role of the US - India defence and security partnership' here, Garcetti said many innocent lives were being snuffed out due to terrorism. "Both the countries face the threat from terror organisations like Lashkar, Jaish, ISIS. These terror outfits operate across borders and we must meet this threat together. Our collaboration extends beyond fighting terrorism but we must also see how we can de-radicalise communities," he said. "We have to invest in opportunities in some of our

Speaking at the US-India Science and Technology Endowment Fund 2024 Awards Reception, he said the two countries have been investing in the next generation of "magicians who will conjure up the solutions this world so badly needs". "India and the US have a vision of technology that can connect and protect their people and be used as a force for good. The endowment fund is bringing together innovators because, as I often say, the Indian dream is the flip side of the American dream, and vice versa, and we really like each other," Garcetti said. He said that the US and India are setting new records in student partnerships, military sales, and joint exercises. "Last year, India became the number one source of students to institutions in the United States. We announced a new quad fellowship tha
The US wants to build a "BFF (best friends forever) relationship" with India, and a change of guard at the White House will not change ties between the two countries, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti said on Wednesday. Without naming China, Garcetti said if New Delhi has to contend with "regional competitors", it will have to reduce the dependence on a single country and added that such a reliance is not just an economic risk, but a security risk as well. Speaking at the Milken Institute event here at a time when five pension funds with USD 1.8 trillion of assets under management are scouting for investment opportunities in India, Garcetti exhorted the Americans to invest more in the country for their own good. Borrowing the acronym of the pension funds' tour christened Building Financial Futures, Garcetti made clear American intent on India-US ties. "We want to build a BFF (best friends forever) relationship between the US and India," he said. Deploying a colloquial phrase popular on

The conference brought together nearly 2,000 educators, school leaders, counsellors, and university representatives from around the world. United States is a safe country and it "cares deeply" for the well-being of Indian students, its Ambassador Eric Garcetti said here on Friday and assured their parents that "their children are our children" when they are in the US. His comments during an interview to PTI at the American Center comes in the backdrop of reports of nearly half a dozen deaths of Indian and Indian-origin students in the US since January. While the US remains a preferred destination for higher studies among Indian students, the string of such cases has raised concern among the Indo-American community as well as the Indian population. "We care so deeply for the well-being of Indian students in the US. We want parents to know that their children are our children when they are in United States. And, there is a wealth of resources that can help students prepare...in the US, whether it is mental health... and resources for that being far away for home, parents and families," he told PTI.
