Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana on Friday administered the oath to the newly elected BJP and RLD MLAs. Voting for the by-elections in nine seats of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly was held on November 20 and the results were declared on November 23. The Samajwadi Party is not expected to come to power in Uttar Pradesh till 2047, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said on Sunday, taking a dig at the opposition party chief Akhilesh Yadav over its dismal performance in the assembly bypolls. Seventy-eight candidates filed their nomination papers for the Uttar Pradesh assembly bypolls on Friday, taking the total number of contestants from the nine seats to 149. Friday was the last day for filing nomination papers.
