SC adjourns hearing on CBI's plea to transfer trial against Yasin Malik

The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned to April 4 the hearing on a plea filed by the CBI to transfer trial against jailed JKLF chief Yasin Malik and other co-accused in two cases from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan deferred the matter as Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was not available. The Supreme Court on Friday directed jailed JKLF chief Yasin Malik to appear in a Jammu court from Tihar Jail through video-conferencing on March 27. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan noted that the Jammu sessions court was "well-equipped" with the video-conferencing system enabling the virtual examination. The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave banned JKLF chief Yasin Malik and five others two weeks to respond to the CBI's plea to transfer the trial in two terror cases from Jammu to New Delhi. HC judge recuses himself from plea seeking death penalty for Yasin Malik

Delhi High Court judge Amit Sharma on Thursday recused himself from hearing a plea by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) seeking death penalty for separatist leader Yasin Malik in a terror funding case. The matter was listed before a division bench headed by Justice Prathiba M Singh after a change in the roster of judges dealing with such cases.
