In the wake of YSRCP Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy announcing his resignation from the upper house, party leader Maddila Gurumoorthy on Saturday urged him to reconsider his decision, emphasising the importance of unity in securing YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's re-election as Chief Minister. Vijayasai Reddy shocked many on Friday evening when he declared his intention to resign from Parliament and step away from politics to focus on agriculture. Senior YSRCP leader and former Andhra Pradesh minister M Srinivasa Rao (Avanti) on Thursday resigned from the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led party, citing 'personal reasons', even as he alleged there was no respect for functionaries and cadres in the organisation. Besides resigning from the party, the former Tourism minister also withdrew from his responsibilities of overseeing YSRCP's affairs in Bheemili Assembly constituency. "As I have decided to stay away from politics due to personal reasons, I am resigning from the YSRCP and Bheemili constituency in-charge responsibilities," Rao said in his resignation letter to party chief Reddy. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday disbursed financial assistance of Rs 78 crore under 'YSR Kalyanamasthu' and 'YSR Shaadi Tohfa' schemes to meet the marriage expenses of those belonging to SC, ST, BC, minority and other communities. The Chief Minister said 10,132 couples who got married in the October-December quarter of 2023 will benefit from this scheme. YSR Kalyanamasthu and YSR Shaadi Tohfa schemes encourage children's education as the bride and bridegroom have to complete class 10 to avail them, said Reddy, addressing officials virtually from his camp office. He also noted that the bride and groom should mandatorily attain the age of 18 and 21 respectively, which ensures that nobody can avail this scheme when they are still minors even though they pass 10th standard. Y S Sharmila, the daughter of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and founder of YSR Telangana Party, joined the Congress here on Thursday. She also announced the merger of her YSR Telangana Congress with the Congress, and said she would fulfil any responsibility given to her. Sharmila joined the Congress in the presence of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and former party president Rahul Gandhi. Lauding the Congress, she said it is the largest secular party in the country as it unwaveringly serves all communities and unites all sections of people. Less than a fortnight after joining the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh in the presence of its chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu announced his decision to quit the party on Saturday. Making the announcement, Rayudu said he wanted to stay out of politics 'for a little while'. Rayudu's decicion comes ahead of the state Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha polls. "This is to inform everyone that I have decided to quit the YSRCP Party and stay out of politics for a little while," said Rayudu in a post on social media platform X. However, he promised to convey his future plans in 'due course of time'. He had joined YSRCP on December 28, 2023, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy and Rajampeta Lok Sabha member P Mithun Reddy. Rayudu had represented the Indian cricket team and also played for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Y S Sharmila, founder of YSR Telangana Party, is likely to join the Congress here Thursday morning, sources said. Sharmila arrived here on Wednesday night. The Congress said a "very eminent personality" will join the party at 10.30 AM, Thursday at AICC headquarters here.
