Lionel Messi was detained by Chinese police at Beijing Airport due to Visa related misunderstanding. The Chinese authorities resolved the matter in 30 minutes.
Star footballer Lionel Messi was detained by Chinese authorities at Beijing Airport on June 10 following passport related misunderstanding.
Messi reached China to play a scheduled match against Australia at the Workers Stadium on June 15th.
According to some reports, as soon as Messi reached China to lead Argentina in a much-awaited match against Australia, he found himself in trouble with the Chinese Border Police.
The reported issue revolved around his visa, as Messi was holding a Spanish passport instead of his Argentine passport without a valid Chinese visa.
The matter lasted for around 30 minutes and was later resolved permitting Messi to continue his journey beyond the airport.
Argentina is looking forward to riding their world cup highs against Australia on June 15. Thereafter they will leave for Indonesia, where they will play against them on June 19.
Messi, who holds all the major football trophies, shocked his fans last month by departing Paris Saint Germain (PSG) at the end of his contract and joining Inter Miami.
The Argentina star decided to leave European football and play for Inter Miami only after few months after winning FIFA World Cup 2023 in Qatar.
Messi is currently on a break before starting a fresh chapter of his life. Messi is set to join Inter Miami, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team owned by David Beckham, in the dynamic city of Miami.
He joined PSG in 2021 after ending his twenty years tenure with Barcelona. Now he has decided not to extend his contract with PSG and will leave European football to play with Inter Miami.
