Hyundai has finally relaunched the legendary Santro, its compact family car, which was discontinued in 2014 after sixteen years of successful run. The Korean car maker has invested about Rs 7.4 billion over the last three years to develop the car that has already received over 23,500 units of advanced bookings in just thirteen days.
“The Santro is an iconic and legendary brand that has won the hearts of millions of Indian customers for last two decades. The magic of Santro continues with this all new car which has received an overwhelming response in less than two weeks, “ said Y K Koo, managing director and chief executive officer at Hyundai Motor India.
The new Santro which is built on the tall-boy design, offers a decent cabin space with good headroom and good-to-go boot space. The car also comes with a well-designed dashboard and the the top variant features a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The regular features like USB, Aux and Bluetooth comes with inbuilt support of smart features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link.
The 1,100cc engine Santro comes in petrol and compressed natural gas fuel variants. The petrol variant claims to offer a mileage of 20.3 km per litre while the CNG trim offers a mileage of 30.48 km per kg. The car boasts of advanced active and passive safety with standard features like ABS with EBD and dual front air bags across variants. The new Santro also meets pedestrian safety norms, the company said.
The car comes in five variant options -- Dlite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. The mid-range Magna and Sportz variants are available with factory-fitted CNG kit and Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) options and the top-spec trim has been priced at Rs 546,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). While Santro becomes the first Hyundai car to get an AMT, the Grand i10 and Xcent will also receive AMT anytime soon.
