Dow Chemical International Pvt Ltd (Dow India) on August 4, 2015 launched its new product for soil enrichment, Nutribuild, which will be available as a chelated fertiliser mix for standard micronutrients as well as non-chelated silicon micronutrient in Maharashtra. The company claims that Nutribuild is one of the first products in India to provide all critical micro-nutrients under one umbrella.
Micronutrients are elements essential for plant nutrition and are required in very small (micro) quantities for healthy plant growth. These are zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), boron (B), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo) and silicon (Si). However, continuous crop cultivation over the years and degradation due to physical factors, results in depletion of micronutrients, affecting the productivity of soil. This leads to deficiency in crops and lowers crop quality and yield.
Nutribuild promises to make micronutrients available in prescribed grades in standard as well as mix micronutrient forms. The company’s chelated micronutrients ensure that the products need to be administered in the lowest possible dosage and deliver visible results in 48-72 hours. While the chelated products are priced higher than the non-chelated ones, their end-cost of application is lower per hectare as over 90 percent of the nutrients are absorbed by the plant when administered in chelated form and there is minimal wastage.

Commenting at the launch, Pramod Deo, head of business development for Dow India, said, “The market for agricultural micronutrients is growing at a CAGR of 15 percent per annum. Chelated micronutrients, represent 7 percent of total global market by volume and are growing faster than non-chelated ones. Through backward integration, Dow India will be one of the few companies to address the end to end value chain in micronutrients market, thereby bringing consistency to quality as well as pricing.”
Launched in Maharashtra, the product replenishes micronutrients in fruits, vegetables and crops including sugarcane, paddy and cotton. Dow will launch the new product across country in a phase-wise manner, over the next few years.
