GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK Pharma) will invest Rs 1000 crore in a greenfield manufacturing facility at Vemgal near Bengaluru - the first greenfield pharma site GSK has built across the globe over the past 10 years, according to a PTI report.
The proposed plant, having an installed capacity of over 9 billion tablets and capsules per year, is expected to be operational by 2017.
The new unit is part of the strategic plan to rationalise, streamline and reduce costs in the supply network, while increasing capacity to meet the growing demands for important medicines, said the company in its annual report.

In addition, GSK India is also upgrading its Nashik site in Maharashtra by investing in infrastructure across all areas with special focus on good manufacturing practices (GMP), safety and sustainability, added the report.
