In recent months, Tata Engineering (Telco) has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Its share price at Rs 79.84 is a third of what it was a year ago. Market conditions ensured that the Rs 8,000 crore auto major performed disastrously last year, while it fared slightly better in the first quarter of the current fiscal.

P P Kadle, chief financial officer and senior vice president (corporate affairs) of the company, spoke to Nandini Lakshman and Manas Chakravarty on the new initiatives to tide over difficult times.

The commercial vehicle sector has been under pressure. But competitors like Ashok Leyland seemed to have performed better than Telco. How?
