In December 1956, Italian film director Roberto Rossellini  leading exponent of the neo-realist movement, maker of films such as Rome, Open City and husband of the world-famous Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman  visited India at the invitation of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
