The annual Khoj workshops are being more seriously re-invented to promote artistic interaction
Khoj burst upon India a half-decade ago with an international artists workshop in the industrial township of Modinagar, near Meerut. The site of work was Sikribagh, a run-down estate with a lake, orchards and terrace. These the artists would use unhesitatingly for the next few years.
The workshops defined Khoj, and the annual event itself began to be known after the group. When, last year, the agenda was expanded to include a residency, it was a hint of shifts to come. And this year, Khoj privately declared that it would be seen less from next year.
Khoj is moulting. It is finding new avatars to carry out its work of building a South Asia network for the arts. And the Sikribagh workshop is being moved out of its ambit.
