WHICH CAR?

Image

BSM Desk Mumbai
You can try the Suzuki SX4, which has tall seating which can be adjusted further as well. In the SX4, you need not bend too much to get in or get out. The other option you have is the Toyota Innova, which again will be easy on your back in terms of getting in and out, and the front seats are comfortable too. Do test drive both the cars before you take a decision.  Thinking big  I drive a Maruti Suzuki Baleno Altura, which I now want to replace with an SUV. I prefer a petrol SUV, as my driving is limited to about 15 km daily. I want road presence, a little bit of luxury thrown in and driving pleasure. I was thinking of the Suzuki Grand Vitara, but I can stretch my budget to fit the Hyundai Santa Fe, as and when it is launched. Should I wait for it?

Dr M Talwar, via email

Hyundai may showcase the Santa Fe at the Auto Expo in January next year, and it will be launched later into the year. However, it will come with a diesel engine. The Grand Vitara is a decent car and reasonably priced too, but it does not make you feel extra special... especially when you see parts of the Swift in it! However, since your budget permits, you can go for the Honda CR-V. It's an accomplished car and the engine is a gem. The CR-V is well-built and superbly engineered. You will love it.  Urban diesel  I cover about 60 to 80 km almost everyday in Mumbai, so I need a good, fuel efficient diesel saloon. I have a chauffeur to do the driving. Along with low running costs, rear seat comfort is also important for me. I am considering the Ford Fiesta TDCi and the Hyundai Verna CRDi. Which one do you recommend between these two?

Romesh Kukreja, via email

The Verna CRDi is a powerful car yet it sips diesel. However, the Fiesta TDCi is a better bet for you as it offers you better ride quality than the Verna and you will appreciate its rear seats better. Though the engine is not exactly big in performance, it is adequate for driving in the city. And yes, you will be happy with its fuel consumption figures. Go for it.
