From watches to bed linen to limited edition rings and exquisite porcelain pieces, the festive season of 2009-10 looks priceless

Red in a new avatar

Van Heusen’s 2009-10 winter collection goes back to the basics of reds and blacks. The cuts are classic “yet edgy and hot”, and the jackets and tops in knits and wovens can be starkly contrasted — and matched — by black lowers. What’s more, apparel from the brand showcases fitted and well-tailored suits with arched collars and shoulder pads. The look is very sleek and appealing. You are bound to be a showstealer if you opt for the VH Woman look. We love the tweed coats that the brand has introduced in red. Very cool, very it.

Warm tones for the bed

Maspar’s new range for winter looks at warm tones. No, the brand doesn’t bunk the regular reds, greens, chocolate browns and blacks. On the contrary, bed sheets, duvet covers, cushion, and pillow, covers get an amalgamation of colours. So, a “stencilled” cushion cover that’s otherwise in dark brown tones gets a hint of red. Or, a ray of orange emerges from the otherwise bold green tone that so gorgeously defines the pillow covers. It’s about being mellow, warm but not boring, and that’s why it’s called the “pot pourri” collection.

It’s a mystery in porcelain

This limited-edition piece (with a wooden base) is Lladro’s new offering for the festive season. A beautiful woman’s face is hidden behind a huge fantasy Venetian mask, adorned with porcelain flowers and fragile textures. The white matte porcelain painted with “platinum luster” makes the piece very smooth and gives it a perfect “biscuit matte” finish. What’s unique is the combination of shiny and matte finish that makes the lady so gorgeously collectible.

This partition is worth it

We simply love this decor piece by Fcml. The design is contemporary but — depending on how you go about placing photographs — it can become a classic, too. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the accompanying picture and you’ll know what we mean. The separator/partition is actually a large photograph frame that can work so well as a decor item. So, if you decide to put sepia-toned pictures of your grandparents and parents in it, it could work well as a classic piece. If, however, you decide to put pictures of your gang, or of yourself sporting a grunge look, it will automatically translate as a modern-looking frame.
