Nearly a decade after Viviek Oberoi, Ritiesh Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani's goof ups in Masti left the Indian audiences in splits, its time for Grand Masti, the sequel. Directed by Indra Kumar and produced by Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria, the film distributed by Maruti International opened with approximately 2000 screens.
The movie stars Sonalee Kulkarni, Bruna Abdullah, Karishma Tanna, Kainaat Arora, Maryam Zakaria and Manjari Fadnis apart from the trio from the first part. Grand Masti has opened to decent occupancy considering it doesnt hae any strong competition from the other releases today – Horror Story and John Day.
Horror Story is yet another horror flick form the Vkram Bhatt stable while John Day is a thrille starring Randeep Hooda and Naseeruddin Shah. Neither of the films have created any buzz to indicate they can give competition to Grand Masti which at least has an established franchise.
Grand Masti is an out and out adult comedy and early reviews of the movie suggest that those opting to see the movie need to be open to some illogical, mindless raunchy humour that may not bide well with everyone. Oberoi had made it clear in the run up to the film that the film is meant for some adult fun and not to teach any moral values.
The movie has had its share of controversies thanks to its bold content. The Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the release of the film citing that the content of the movie (dialogues and visuals) objectify women and show them in regressive light. The order was however lifted eventually and the movie released in those territories as well along with the rest of the country.
