Book keepers

Bookends are hard to find. You can scout all the bookstores and lifestyle stores in town but all you’re likely to find are a jaded pair covered in dust at the back of some long-forgotten shelf. The Internet, surprisingly, is more helpful in the search for good bookends, with a wide array available in a range of prices.

Virtual rack

For instance, www.justbookends.com has some of the best bookends you will find. There are bookends for children, designer ones as well as antique pieces. The Thinker Bookend, one of the more popular ones, retails at approximately Rs 5,000. Crafted out of solid brass and finished in bronze, with a base of wood, these will add flair to any book shelf.

Then there’s the Wine-rack bookend, which allows you to keep three bottles of wine between them, and the Tug-of-war bookends, made of bronze-finished polyresin, which look quite interesting. Both these pairs are priced at Rs 2,000-2,500. Order online, and the bookends will be delivered to you anywhere in the country in about two weeks.

Letter heads

If you aren’t into buying online, try such stores such as Soul Cabin in Gurgaon. Made out of wood, you’ll find bookends here priced between Rs 799 and Rs 2,199. There is also Tarini in Greater Kailash, New Delhi, which stocks bookends in various shapes and sizes. The basic alphabet bookend — with the letter A at one end and Z at the other — retails for Rs 699.

A light matter

Check out the Fabindia stores for good reading lamps. You can choose between the table and wall-mounted ones, in both traditional and contemporary styles.

The lamps available here are made of everything from resin to paper, wood, terracotta, ceramic and brass. Starting from Rs 699, prices go upto Rs 2,999. At Good Earth, meanwhile, you will find good reading lamps in the range of Rs 999 to Rs 3,000.
