Just two days before the start of the World Cup, the Indian cricket team was today dealt a blow as opener Sourav Ganguly injured his ankle during net practice, thereby raising doubts on his playing the warm-up match against the West Indies later in the day. Indian team sources said Ganguly hurt his ankle during the practice session and would most probably sit out of the side's final warm-up match since selectors might not want to risk him before the start of the World Cup with the first match on March 13. The final decision, however, would be taken by the team management, they said. India will play its opening group match against Bangladesh on March 17 at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad while the tournament will be inaugurated on Sunday, March 11. |
