Like most computer science graduates, Avinash, also dreams of a job at a corporate office. What proves to be a challenge for him in achieving his goal is his struggle with cerebral palsy. However, with the support of an internship programme -- ‘Redefine Abilities’ -- initiated by EMC India COE (Centre Of Excellence) nothing looks impossible for Avinash and many more like him.

Thanks to a partner like Enable India, EMC India COE’s efforts give shape to the dreams scores of people with disabilities. Enable India has been working to enable and empower the differently-abled people from 1999.

The one-year internship programme engages persons with profound disabilities to help them achieve economic independence.

This year, 12 people were identified for the programme. During the internship, they will be categorised according to their abilities and will be trained according to their areas of interests. For example, for those requiring technical expertise, training to use assisted technologies like screen-reader, speech recognition, onscreen keyboard, word prediction software and colour magnifier will be provided during internship.

Towards the end of the programme, EMC India COE makes an effort to provide job opportunities to them at the company. Through their different employment programmes for the differently-abled, Enable India claims to place 500-700 individuals on an average every year.
