Narain Karthikeyan may soon get another chance at racing in Formula One. |
In life there may be second chances, but in sports, more specifically in motorsports, second chances are rare. But Narain Karthikeyan may get another chance to race in Formula One, a rare opportunity for the fastest Indian on wheels to prove his mettle. Karthikeyan's possible second innings hopefully will not have him repeat the mistakes he might have committed during his first stint as an F1 driver with Midland, earlier known as Jordan. According to Sanjay Sharma, head of motorsports division at JK Tyres, "Narain is a much more accomplished driver now than he was two years ago." |
Although Karthikeyan managed to impress Formula One experts, he failed to convince them that he had a long-term future in the sport. His best result was a fourth position at the infamous Indianapolis GP, where out of 20 cars only six took part due to a dispute over the use of tyres. He performed admirably, considering he was a rookie, yet questions were raised over his temperament. In the meantime, Karthikeyan has been the test driver for Team Williams and reports suggests that both parties were still contemplating a move. |
Karthikeyan reportedly said that while he was delighted to be offered a second chance to race, he is happy at Williams as well. "Competitive racing is always better than test driving, but then at Williams too I am sure he is honing his skills, which would hold him in good stead," adds Sharma. |
Sharma believes that Karthikeyan will perform much better as Spyker will have a car that is technically superior (albeit marginally) to the one he drove for Jordan. While Spyker's decision is expected to be announced late next week, Indian motorsports fans can once again hope to see the fastest Indian at the pinnacle of motor racing. |
