Today Google is celebrating noted English writer, humorist and dramatist Douglas Adams' 61st birthday with an animated doodle.
The Google Doodle shows one of Adams most well-known works --- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - a comic science fiction series. The doodle features a towel, a bag, a cup of tea and a few other items. The doodle also features a robotic character when clicked on the liftdoor. The robot, named Marvin, is one of the several characters from Adam's novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Adams was born on March 11, 1952 in Cambridge and started his career with one of BBC Radio stations. His work for the UK radio industry earned him a place in the hall of fame of the UK Radio Academy.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which started life in 1978 as a BBC radio comedy before developing into a 'trilogy' of five books that sold over 15 million copies in his lifetime, a television series, several stage plays, comics, a computer game, and in 2005 a feature film. Adams's contribution to UK radio is commemorated in The Radio Academy's Hall of Fame. A music enthusiast, Adams played guitar and piano and was an environmental activist who took up the cause of wildlife conservation.
He died on 11 May 2001 at the age of 49 in Santa Barbara, California after a heart attack.
