It's an LVMH luxury brand, handcrafted for personal use. |
Last Wednesday saw the launch of a new luxury brand in New Delhi; after the first tentative forays of the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton, these are coming thick and fast. |
The latest is the Omas brand of pens, also owned by the umbrella luxury group Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH). Omas has been brought to India by LivTek India. |
"This is a very unique product," says Rati Krishna, director, LivTek India. "We don't feel like we have any direct competition in the market. This pen is handcrafted; it's more like jewellery than a pen." |
Omas pens are priced in a wide range from Rs 8,900 to Rs 26,900. "We feel that there's definitely a market for Omas in India; it's just a question of marketing it and making people aware of the fact that it's now available here. People are becoming very brand-conscious in this country," argues Krishna. |
Omas pens were created by Armando Simoni in 1925, in Bologna in Italy, and bought by the luxury brands group LVMH in 2000. |
The pens are crafted in 100 stages, over 100 days, and are available in gold and rhodium finishes, apart from silver. The pens will be available at several lifestyle stores, not just in the capital, but all over India, in towns like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad. |
