I am in the market for a second car, mainly for my wife. She now drives our 2000 model year Toyota Qualis (despite ribbing from friends!), after she sold her old Maruti 800 and I, my Dolphin. Despite its oddball looks, both of us love the Qualis and plan to retain it. |
What we are now looking for is a compact, comfortable, easy-to-drive car that can tackle Bangalore's nightmare traffic and roads, while being able to squeeze into tight parking slots. We do most of our driving ourselves. Both of us are in our early 40s, and our family of five includes two strapping teenagers eagerly waiting to get behind the wheel. |
While initial price is not a problem, maintenance costs in the short- and long-term should not burn a hole in the pocket. So: which second car? Swift, Getz, Accent Viva CRDi, City/Civic, Fusion, Optra/SRV or Octavia diesel. We are even willing to consider the Wagon R and Indica/Indigo diesels. Also willing to wait if you know of any new models in the pipeline (will continue to use Indica taxis till then!).
Ranjit B, Bangalore What you need, rather your wife needs, is a reliable, economical and good looking (enough of Qualis jokes, right?) automobile. We think you need a Swift "" it has got the spunk, is peppy and easy to drive, and very low on maintenance. Keep the Qualis "" the same friends will appreciate it when you load them into it and go on a weekend trip. By the way, why did you sell your Dolphin?!Any automotive questions?Ask us at |
