Direction classes on the weekend
Has it always been your dream to direct films or television shows, but haven’t found the spare time to learn full-time? Here’s a course that has been specially designed for people who have to work or go to college on weekdays. Rajashree, an award-winning filmmaker and bestselling novelist who has also taught at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, is conducting a four-month course in scriptwriting and directing films, with full-day classes on Sundays, in Andheri (West), Mumbai.
It is also possible for students who live out of town to attend the theory classes and scriptwriting practicals online via webconferencing. They can then come to Mumbai only for the camera and editing practicals which will be held on consecutive days for their convenience. The students will be given certificates at the successful completion of the course, whose syllabus includes scriptwriting, the basics of script grammar and assistant direction. The course also includes step-outline making, pre- and post-production and screening of a short film.

Cinematheque
Cinematheque is an initiative by the alumni of Jamia Millia Islamia’s Mass Communication Research Centre. Industry professionals as well as practitioners from alternate media also come and conduct classes on various aspects of film-making and photography. This 15-day full-time workshop provides hands-on technical knowledge as well as takes students through the basic debates in film theory and aesthetics.The course culminates with the students scripting, shooting, directing and editing their own films and audio-visuals on high-end digital cameras (which Cinematheque provides).
There are two courses — one on photography and the other on filmmaking. The first includes analogue and digital photography, composition, scripting and storyboarding, lighting, post-production, avenues for photography, photo features. The second course teaches the basics of the camera, including the ‘5 Cs’ of cinematography. There are also intensive sessions on scripting, storyboard and screenplay writing, lighting, recording and editing sound in film, post-production basics, film screenings and discussions, film theory and a final short film.
