A lady who owns a slew of South-east Asian restaurants all over Delhi recently went to a new South-east Asian eatery owned by a couple. The lady was there at the invitation of her cousin who was visiting Delhi.
Well, the lady went, but so late that her cousin and another couple of friends were halfway through their starters. The lady and her hosts set up a friendly banter of who was to do the ordering when the owners strode up to the table and accused her of trying to steal the menu.
Accusations were traded, sides were taken and the lady and her hosts flounced furiously out of the restaurant. The owners swear the lady was caught on a previous occasion purloining a menu and her behaviour was inexplicable, to say the least. According to them, the menu was being read out to someone on the phone.
News of this sort spreads like wildfire and within an hour of the incident, there was hardly anybody in F&B circles in the city who was not glued to a phone, discussing the whole fracas. Other restaurant owners joined the fray.
