In what was surely a coincidence, in the princely states of India, it became fashionable to take white women as secondary wives, even as the worthies of the Raj choked at their collective throats.
It was their phlegmatic view that racial disorder might set in as the heathen blacks (or browns) of the Indian subcontinent carried off their fair women to their harems.
