Manish Uppal, managing director of the Uppal Group, started his career as a front desk manager, later joining the family business. Today he cannot imagine a day without his phone and organiser. Although looking forward to the Apple iPhone, he does not like the inability of Apple products to sync seamlessly with other devices.

Tell us about an occasion when your gadgets came to your rescue.
My phone comes to my rescue every day. I really cannot imagine a day without my Nokia Communicator and HTC Touch. Also, since I do have a backup of my phone details on my laptop, whenever there is a problem with my phone the laptop comes to my rescue.

What is your costliest device till date?
My Bang&Olufsen music system.

Which one of your gadgets was a complete waste of money?
No gadget can ever be called a waste of time or money, because new technology is always educating. Being a gadget enthusiast, I really like all kinds of technology.

Would you be able to survive a day without your favourite gadgets?
I think it would be the most restless day of my life, as it's hard to imagine a day without my phone and organiser.

How often do you change your gadgets?
Quite regularly with my hand phone "" after every few months, to keep up with the new features being introduced in the market. This is more the case with business phones, hence upgrading technology is the only viable option.

What is the next gadget on your must-buy list?
Definitely an iPhone, because it's the best phone available in the international market and would be an awesome gadget to possess as soon as it is launched in India.

Name one funky gadget that you had fun experimenting with.
My new HTC phone, as it has a software, Photoshop, that allows me to edit pictures. It also features an easy-to-use touchscreen and simple user interface. The HTC Touch with TouchFLO makes quick dialling, navigation and selection very convenient. The phone has brilliant entertainment features that include storing my favourite music and movie clips through its integrated media suite.

What is one gadget you don't like, and why? Sometimes it's a tad difficult to use Apple products because of the requirement of different software and operating systems. This limits their syncing with other gadgets.

If you could build one, what dream gadget would you go for? I would build a small notebook which would not weigh more than 1 kg and could work wirelessly and as a mobile phone. It would have a battery life of more than 10 hours.

Can you unwind with the help of your gadgets? Challenging my kids over a game on Xbox, or listening to music, are definite stress-busters for me.
