In 2006, Ajay Sambrani joined Sandvik Asia as its senior vice president, and soon presented a research paper on the growth of medium voltage business in India, identifying growth sectors and key challenges. He may now have to implement many of its suggestions, since he has recently been appointed the company’s new India Country Head for Sandvik Asia, the Indian subsidiary of the $13 billion Sandvik Group. This is also the first time that an Indian executive has been included in the company’s executive management.

Sambrani began his career in 1989 with GE Power Control as an industrial engineer and then moved on to GEC Alsthom Ltd, Hosur as a management trainee. In 1994, Sambrani joined ABB Ltd, Bangalore as a manager, manufacturing and supply management and relays and substation automation division. He was responsible for the entire gamut of activities covered under manufacturing.

Born in 1966, Sambrani holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial and Production) and Diploma of Management from ABB University. He holds trade organisation membership of CII and Ahmedabad Management Association. Ajay is fond of travelling and playing golf.
