For the first time in India, an Image Guided radiotherapy system has been introduced in a hospital here which doctors claim can reduce treatment time and spare healthy tissue.

Officials at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital said the newly introduced Trilogy system would allow doctors to treat a variety of patients suffering from different types of cancer.

Doctors would be able to use the real time image data to modify a patient's treatment and would be able to address the issue of tumout movement, usually caused by breathing, they said.

The therapy could be used to treat different kinds of solid tumours and also in cases of leukemia and lymphoma, hospital authorities said.
