In 1965, a team of mountaineers hauled a nuclear -powered sensor up the steep slopes of the 25,645-foot Nanda Devi. Led by M S Kohli, fresh from an Everest triumph that put record nine men on the summit, the objective was to spy on China's ever-growing nuclear weapons programme.
