I am now in a real dilemma over which car to buy. I prefer diesel because of economy and I have two choices " one is the Esteem diesel and the other is the Indigo. |
The Indigo is cheaper and has all the goodies, while the Esteem offers good mileage and is maintenance-free. Which is the best choice? Which has a good resale value? Will the Liana be released soon in a diesel version?
Roni Zachariah, via email Between the Esteem diesel and the Indigo, we prefer the Indigo. The Esteem is a tad too old to be considered today and the Peugeot diesel engine, though extremely efficient, makes it a boring car to drive. |
The Indigo is not very involving either, but it has the attribute of economy, more interior space and may fetch you a better price when you want to sell it ahead. |
The great debate |
I need a car for the city in the Rs 5 to 7 lakh range, and it will be self-driven. I am debating between the Ikon (Flair/SXi), Accent (various models) and the City. Some people have recommended the Corsa. On a price-value equation, which one would be advisable? |
I like the looks of the Viva petrol, but am not sure of its fuel efficiency (how much kpl does it give? I have heard conflicting things about it), while the diesel has its own disadvantages. I have heard great things about the City but don't like its looks, and the power is low. Should I just go and settle for a Flair (at least it costs less!)? Where do the SXi, Corsa or Baleno fit in?
Alok, New Delhi The best buy in the Rs 5-7 lakh segment today is the Honda City " it has got space, adequate performance, is reliable and has amazing fuel economy going for it. The Accent Viva offers a dose of style and panache in an otherwise boring segment " it returns 10-12 kpl depending on how and where you drive. |
The Corsa sedan is indeed a well-built car and a great bargain these days, but it is a bit too old. The Ikon Flair is economical yet somewhat fun to drive, but is lacking in features. If you want great ride quality above all, then go for the Corsa sedan. But if what you are looking for is a fun-to-drive car then we recommend the Ikon Flair. Want an all-rounder? |
Then the Viva should fit your bill... since you don't like the looks of the City. As for the Baleno, it is a much bigger car that comes across as a great VFM bargain, while the Ikon SXi, a real fun-to-drive car with questionable drinking habits. Our choice? The Honda City. |
