This sequel to The Articulate Executive, intends to put the author's old premise""that persuasion is leadership""into a usable format. Forests have been felled to produce similar books, but the first-glance yawn-proofing is provided by the author's name and flip-open text. "If you dream of being the next Jeff Immelt, Steve Jobs or Charlotte Beers..." it beckons, read on. |
This choice of three evokes instant curiosity. Beers' last persuasion job, remember, ended in oh-dears.... The book itself? Toogood doesn't let his emphasis on the value of clarity muddle his appreciation of varying communication objectives. So he lets Alan Greenspan off (his words are "there for a reason") while hailing the likes of Patrick Henry ("liberty or death"). Shorn of verbiage, this book is a taut read.
