Ian Poulter, whose hairstyle raises the hair of many staid golf officials, arrived in Portmarnock to prepare for the Nissan Irish Open with his hair dyed red and yellow.

The 27-year-old Poulter said, "I got it done because I'm getting ready for the football season"" I'm a mad Arsenal fan."

What do the officials say? Nothing as yet, but they could soon be looking at the European Tour rule book, which says, "Players will present a neat appearance in both clothing and personal grooming."

Marsh is kicking
Former Australian golf star, the 60-year-old Graham Marsh, recently holed his eight-iron tee shot on the par-3 11th hole in the third round of the Senior British Open at Royal Portrush.

This feat came after he had done the same two days earlier in the first round. Wine lover Marsh won 170 bottles for his first ace "" the 11th hole's yardage "" and another 170 for the second. "There's no better prize," said Marsh, winner of 65 events in his career.

Bookmakers, quoting 40,000-1 on a player scoring two aces on the same hole, reduced it to 150-1 on a final-round Marsh ace. He did not manage that. The last time a player made two aces on the same hole in a tournament was at the1986 Chrysler Cup at Avenel and it came from Arnold Palmer, who aced the third hole on successive days.
