 The 2008 Whitney Biennale was a snapshot of America. At the end of a day devoted to seeing the relatively small spread, there is a difficult question left to answer: When was the last time that a major art event was so angst ridden and reflective? This show doesn't oscillate as sharply between anger and apology as global audiences have come to expect from the liberal American public.
