Strong ABS

WHICH CAR?

I have decided to buy the Santro Xing XS this month. One question in this regard " is ABS necessary for this car?

Considering that there are going to be more safety norms in 2005, do you think ABS would do any good with respect to resale value, apart from safety?

Guruprasad, Bangalore

The Xing is a good decision " ABS is standard in the automatic version and can be specified as an extra in other models.

Today, most small cars don't really have this feature, even as an option, but yes, in the future, it will eventually become mandatory. ABS is a good safety device and if you have the money to spare, you might as well take the option.

After all, the same kind of money might net you a fancy audio upgrade, but we recommend a wiser approach to spending money and ABS would be the first option.

Win diesel

I enjoy reading your car suggestions! I am using Esteem VX since 1997. Let me tell you I am very happy with everything in my Esteem VX.

However, I am planning to change my vehicle. My budget is around Rs 11-12 lakh and I have the Skoda Octavia diesel in mind. What's your opinion on this? I travel at least 50 km a day. Is this right car for professionals? I have a driver

Rajendra Prasad, Hyderabad

The Octavia diesel fits the profile of a professional very well, is economical to run and comfortable to travel around in " no matter which seat you occupy.

The engine's a proven Volkswagen unit and will give you years of trouble-free service, coupled with about 14 kpl. The Octavia is indeed a step in the right direction if you want a diesel car in this segment, go for it.
