A few recent shows remind us that mediocrity is alive and kicking
Let me begin by laying out my fears. In 1937, the Nazis organised one of the most popular exhibitions: the Entartete Kunst, the show of degenerate art.
It included all that was deemed, essentially, un-German. If you expected that only art from Jews was included, think again; it included some of the best artists, mostly non-Jews.

The show essentially sought to teach viewers about what was inappropriate, bad art and to be purged.
In a much smaller show, they also put up true German art, but it has never received that kind of attention
