EDUCATION: Punjab's Science City is a learning hub.

This Science City - north India's first and only one "" will soon have interesting add-ons. Located across 72-acres in Punjab's Doaba belt, famous for its non-resident Indian connections and high purchasing power, the Science City will soon boast the largest dinosaur park in the country, a railway exhibit complete with a toy train and engine simulators and a weather station.

The Science City "" set up with the objective of cultivating an interest in science "" opened to the public last year with its main highlight being the dome theatre surrounded by an 80 metre screen and 13,000 watts of digital-wrap-around sound. You could have a surreal experience of a rocket lift-off or be part of the climb to Everest in the 325-seat theatre.

Presently, the Science City has three galleries "" space, health and physics. Four galleries are being added in the second phase including sports, emerging technologies and environment.

Jointly promoted by the state and the central government, the Rs 100 crore Science City project is located about 14 kilometres from Jallandhar.

It has emerged as a favoured spot for the senior citizens of the surrounding villages who are mesmerised by the wonders of science. Looking at their enthusiasm, the authorities have taken the pragmatic step of starting computer courses for interested candidates.
