In the movie Remember the Titans, when Denzel Washington, in the role of a high-school football coach, takes his first meeting with the players, he lays down the ground rules. In a booming voice he announces, "This is not a democracy, it's a dictatorship."
Well, we aren't sure whether former Indian Hockey Federation chief K P S Gill saw the movie and was inspired by that line, but he did follow it to the letter.
Under Gill's stewardship there were more lows than highs for Indian hockey, more controversies than accords, more coaches than prime ministers of India. It won't be inappropriate to say that this era won't raise fond memories in years to come.
