There have been navigation rallies before but never one on a scale as big as this one. 50 cars each from four Indian metros participated in India's largest car rally. Dubbed the Airtel One India Challenge, the largest TSD rally ever to be held in India lasted for six days with each of the 200 cars driving over 2,100 kilometres.

GPS systems were used to keep an eye on each of the participating cars and although the results are expected only on the 24th of May, the scale of the event was truly monumental " while the sheer enthusiasm of 500 rallyists from all over the country had to be seen to be believed.

Business Standard Motoring also participated in the rally in a Fiat Petra 1.9 D and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A detailed report on this never-before event will be in the July issue of The Business Standard Motoring Monthly.

With Narain fighting it out in the pinnacle of motorsport and Karun Chandok doing well in the Nissan World Series, Indian motorsport finally seems to have come of age. And now it seems to be Armaan Ebrahim's time to prove a point or two.

Driving for Team E-Rain, fifteen-year old Armaan took a brilliant victory in the fourth round of the Formula BMW Asia and made history by becoming the first rookie ever to do so. Driving a brilliant 20 lap race, Armaan's maturity and pace overshadowed the rest of the pack.

Ebrahim, who has been tipped for a test with India's A1GP Team, said, 'I never thought I'd win this quickly. Today I put my head down and was much more confident. You can expect more from me, but I have to thank BMW for giving me this opportunity and JK Tyre, my primary sponsors, for having faith in me.' As Armaan climbed on to the top step of the podium, the Indian national anthem was played in the background " an epic moment.
