"The house atop the chinar tree is more than a century old ... Archaeologists here tell me that it should be at least 124 years old," Deputy Commissioner of Budgam district Farooq Ahmad Renzu told PTI.

Renzu said the discovery of the house atop the chinar tree, which is itself believed to be more than 200 years old, has drawn large numbers of people every day from nearby villages and other areas.

A large number of people are visiting the village to have a glimpse of what is nothing short of a man-made marvel which has withstood the vagaries of weather and natural calamities over the past century, he said. "It is interesting to see that the house seems to be in good condition.

There are no signs of weathering over time. Even the devastating earthquake of 2005 or the heavy snowfall that has been experienced in Kashmir valley over the past few years has not damaged the structure," he added.

Following the discovery of the house, the residents of the village requested the officials, including Renzu, to visit the spot and take immediate steps to protect this rare historical marvel.
