Bollywood blockbuster Dhoom 3 became the most searched video amongst Indian users in 2013, according to a survey by mobile content company Vuclip. After searching, Indian users also viewing more videos and longer videos like TV shows rather than just clips, like they did earlier.
The survey says that there is strong inclination for sharing mobile videos. In fact the percentage of those who share videos is 13% higher than global average, at 65%. “Indian youth under 18 years old fuel this phenomenon; a whopping 87% say they share mobile videos regularly,” said Vuclip, which provides mobile content. The under-18 population is surfing for superhero movie trailers.
Emerging markets like India are at the forefront of the mobile video revolution, said Nickhil Jakatdar, chief executive officer of Vuclip. “2013 brought a major revolution in democratising access to mobile video for the masses. While it used to be available to only the elite few with smartphones and on high-quality networks, now innovations in technology, as well as pricing have changed the game,” he said.

The other popular videos watched on mobile are TV shows. As many as 62% prefer to watch movies or TV shows on mobile. Long-form content is also preferred by under-18 users. “If made available, 89% of respondents said they would prefer to watch their favourite movies and 81% said they would prefer to watch their favorite TV serials, on their mobiles,” Vuclip said.
While watching videos on mobile is a favourite activity, users also have their concerns. The top worry is high data costs, as told by 39%. While 19% said that buffering is an issue, lack of interesting content came in as the top third-most concern.
Apart from Dhoom 3 videos, Indians are also searched the most for Bollywood actors like Katrina Kaif, followed by Salman Khan. Cricket and gossip were the other topics that Indian are hunting for videos on.
