Window dressing

Blinds are far more versatile than curtains and offer more control over the amount of light that enters a room. Moreover, they keep the room cooler, or warmer, depending on the season. Vertical blinds are low on maintenance and collect very little dust. Even horizontal blinds are easy to maintain: a simple wipe will do!

You can stack up on a variety of styles — Roman, Venetian or chatai being the more popular — in a variety of material from fabric to wood. We did a quick search and found a few promising options:

Rustic chic
Kazage blinds have an inherently rustic feel. On offer are vertical blinds and Roman shades in a range of fabrics and wood. The vertical blinds, for instance, are manufactured by weaving and stitch-bonding, using a variety of colours, patterns, and washable fabrics. They can be used in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, patio doors or French windows. Made to order only.

High on style
Try Tattva’s curtain/blind accessories by Mukul Goyal to jazz up your windows and blinds. The ‘Entangle Tie-back’ to hold back your blinds/curtains, or the blind holders, moulded into different shapes and designs in brass and copper, to add a touch of bling to the ensemble.

Blind choice
Beyond Windows, a Delhi-based company that does customised furnishing, offers a wide range of Roman blinds, fauxwood blinds, chatai blinds and Venetian blinds.

A recent addition is a range from Hunter Douglas, an American brand. These are custom-built and available in a selection of materials, styles, textures and colours. Innovative features include “bounce back” aluminum blinds and contoured headrails.
