Action adventure 'Avatar' has overtaken the global box Office record set in 1997 by 'Titanic' to become the highest grossing film of all time.
"Early this week, 'Avatar' touched $1.859 billion, officially surpassing 'Titanic' ($1.843 billion) to become the biggest film in history at the worldwide box Office," Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios said.
Both films have been written, directed and produced by James Cameron.
With the movie still going strong in cinemas worldwide, industry observers say it is likely to touch $2 billion.
In India, the film has done a business of Rs 105 crore so far, making it the biggest ever Hollywood film in India and second-biggest film in India after '3 Idiots' for 2009, Singh said.

"Avatar's success results from the efforts of literally thousands of people, who over the course of several years, worked to bring James Cameron's vision of Pandora to life," he said.
"The themes of protecting the environment, respecting life, and yearning for a peaceful planet have united moviegoers worldwide," he said.
The theatrical run of 'Avatar' continues in 122 countries around the world in over 16,000 screens with 72 per cent of worldwide box Office coming from 3D screens thus far.
